In a little over two weeks, on Saturday, May 27th, an all-day competition will take place in Weyregg, in which firefighters from the entire Vöcklabruck district will take part. Alexander Gottesroither, commander of the Weyregg volunteer fire brigade, is expecting around 300 competition groups, each with nine to ten members – a total of almost 3,000 people. “But that’s just the participants, not counting the spectators,” says Gottesroither.

One consequence of the major competition, which is about completing special requirements and tasks as quickly as possible on a standardized route peppered with a few obstacles: On that Saturday, the Seeleiten-Straße (B152) leading through the Weyregg area in the center of Completely closed from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Couldn’t the big event have been held somewhere else? Commander Gottesroither says no: “We don’t have such a long straight career that we could say: Let’s do it somewhere else. That’s why it’s taking place on the main street.” There will be local diversions for cars, and the truck and bus traffic, which is usually manageable on Saturdays anyway, has to be diverted over a large area via the B151 on the western side of Lake Attersee.

Sunday, May 28th is district emergency services and civil protection day in Weyregg. Five vehicles of the Federal Army including tanks and a helicopter of the Ministry of the Interior will be on display. Fire brigades with turntable ladders, cherry pickers and cranes, water rescue and mountain rescue are also presented. “All the emergency organizations that exist in Upper Austria are represented there,” says Gottesroither. “If the weather is right, we expect 5,000 to 6,000 people.” By the way, the road will not be closed on this day.
