the packaging of this Friday will be affected by a union measure

The conflict between the company and the union, which will occupy the facilities, continues to escalate, which is why there is concern about the shortage of bottles.

In a context of strong concern about a possible shortage of bottles, the productivity levels of the supergas packaging of acodike located in Camino Lecocq will be affected this Friday by a partial union occupation, in claim for the “mass layoffs” that took place in recent weeks in the company.

The Labor Association of Acodike Supergas Employees (Alfas) called for the measure of force starting at 1:00 p.m. this Friday, and also for a mobilization in the vicinity of the plant at the same time, for what they consider a “bosses’ attack.”

For its part, the company denounced the occupation as illegal in a statement. “An occupation with people outside the company is being harangued, which seriously affects the safety of the packaging facilities,” the document states. In addition, the firm warned that they will apply “the most severe sanctions to the employees who participate in it.”

The conflict began after the dismissal of 14 company workers on March 30 due to the definitive suppression of the evening shift. Of that total, Acodike reinstated six of them last Tuesday. As the dismissal of the other eight employees persists, the union continues with its measures of force.

Concern grows over bottle shortages

One consequence of the conflict in the supergas is the possible shortage of bottles together with the arrival of increasingly cold temperatures. “If temperatures start to drop, you can start to see shortages (of carafes). We hope we don’t get to that point,” union president Andrés Guichón explained.

That would take place in front of seasonal increase in demand, due to the need to heat the rooms with supergas; while, in parallel, the workers’ conflict with Acodike keeps the company’s operations to a minimum.

From Ancap, for their part, they continue to maintain that the responsibility lies with private companiessince the entity did not put any condition, or restriction, or any economic term that would change the equation of Riogas —who fired 26 workers and did not sit down to negotiate afterwards— and Acodike to make that decision. On the other hand, he highlighted that in the bidding the rental cost was free and that the companies that submitted bids for two floors and two different rental terms.
