Oliver Glasner is on his farewell tour. The German Bundesliga match on Saturday (3:30 p.m., Sky) against Mainz is the first of Frankfurt Eintracht since it was known that the ways of Hesse and the 48-year-old Innviertler will part at the end of the season.
It will be interesting to see how the audience will react to this decision. Despite the quarrels in the recent past, Glasner enjoys cult status, which he led “Eagle” to the Europa League title, to the Champions League and to the DFB Cup final, which on June 3rd in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium should enable a grand exit against RB Leipzig. “I’m in the tunnel, I’m trying to subordinate everything to the goal of ‘Eintracht Frankfurt to Europe'”, Glasner says. This only works via the trophy in the cup. After ten matches without a win (five draws, five defeats), the championship path is not really an option.
The Upper Austrian who talks about the reasons for the “divorce” does not want to speak at the moment, has shaped and changed the time at the traditional club. “I came as a bore and leave as a highly emotional guy. Two years of Eintracht Frankfurt did that to me”explained Glasner, who is not allowed to sit on the bench today due to a one-game ban (because of referee criticism): “Michael Angerschmid will be in charge of the line.”
The title race also promises to be explosive. FC Bayern – currently one point ahead of Dortmund – could present again. At 3:30 p.m., Munich will welcome Schalke, who are fighting against relegation, and BVB will meet Mönchengladbach at 6:30 p.m.
