A few weeks from elections in Spain, which will take place on May 28, an association of victims of the Basque separatist group ETA denounced the EH Bildu party for presenting in their lists exetarras who they spent years in jail for crimes like murder.
The Spanish Prosecutor’s Office reported on this situation after receiving a complaint from the Dignity and Justice Association referring to “the incorporation in the candidacies presented by EH Bildu to the regional and municipal elections of 44 people convicted of crimes of terrorism“.
“After analysis, the appropriate decision will be made, regarding the opening or not” of a judicial investigation, said the Prosecutor’s Office.
The complainants hope that the party Bildu be outlawed since the regulations indicate that it can be “declared illegal” if it supports “politically the action of terrorist organizations”.
The ETA was an armed organization that sought the independence of the Basque Country (north) and that was dissolved in May 2018 after causing more than 850 deaths. she was considerate terrorist by Spain and the European Union.
The controversy began on Wednesday, when another association, the Collective of Victims of Terrorism (Covite), denounced before the press that Bildu had on his lists for the municipal and regional elections 44 people who served sentences for various crimes and who belonged to ETA or collaborated with the organization.
As detailed, seven of them were convicted of murder and some are candidates in the same town where they committed the crime.

Until now, Bildu did not speak directly about the controversyalthough their leader Arnaldo Otegi, accused the right on Thursday night of wanting to “degrade the political debate” and to make “noise” in the face of the elections.
