HARTBERG/GOTZENDORF. The second race weekend of the local Rallycross State Championship and the FIA Central European Championship took place in Hartberg in real “hellish weather”, i.e. heavy rain. With two races on two days, the Mühlviertler Alois Höller said with a view to the championship: it is forbidden to drop out. “That can be decisive for the championship,” said Höller in advance of the importance of the double event. Traditionally, the Styrian high-speed track hosted a run for the local state championship on Saturday, and on Sunday the competition was expanded to include the central European zone championship – the international competition was correspondingly strong. The persistent rain also made it difficult to get the power onto the slippery ground. On Saturday, in the third qualifying run, Höller touched a tire wall. Starting fourth in the final, it was a close race behind winner Ales Fucik from the Czech Republic. After a less than ideal start, he was no longer able to get past his competitor after the joker lap and finished fourth.

New day New luck

“He won’t give in, I don’t know why my Ford Fiesta is so difficult to drive in the rain,” Höller struggled with the right set-up on Sunday, especially since rainy weather doesn’t cause the rallycross warhorse any worries. The record champions also made life difficult for themselves with bad starts. In the final, however, the man from Götzendorf unpacked his famous “Höller mentality” just in time, overtook a competitor with the joker lap and made it onto the podium. “If we didn’t have the problems at the start, we would have done better. With a view to the championship, I’m happy to take the podium with me,” said Höller in a forgiving manner. After three race weekends, Höller is now in third place in the Central European Championship and the Austrian Championship. The hunt for points continues for the Götzendorfer on June 10th and 11th in Sedlcany, Czech Republic.
