A 38-year-old German was rescued from mountain distress on Friday in the municipality of Ischgl (district Landeck) after getting stuck in deep snow during his bike ride. Although a police patrol had informed him that the Fimberpass was impassable, the 38-year-old trusted his navigation app and drove on undeterred. When there was no further progress for him, he alerted the rescue services and informed the police.
The Fimber Pass is over 2,600 meters above sea level and is very popular with mountain bikers. However, the current snow conditions do not allow crossing the pass. The 38-year-old first drove over the postponed paths of the Silvretta Arena ski area in the direction of Gampenalpe and then in the direction of the valley station of the Piz Val Gronda cable car. In the deep snow, however, he finally had to give up. Slightly hypothermic, he was rescued by helicopter and flown into the valley.
