Petro was wrong and the children lost in the jungle were not found

The president released a statement made by the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF). However, he had to delete his post almost a day later.

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petrohe retracted and acknowledged that the four children found after getting lost in the Amazon due to a plane crash are still missing, in what represents a nationwide scandal: “I am sorry for what happened. The Military Forces and the indigenous communities will continue in their tireless search to give the country the news it is waiting for.”

The president had announced this Wednesday the appearance of the four indigenous children, in the middle of a case that kept the country on edge. “After arduous search efforts by our Military Forces, we have found alive the 4 children who had disappeared due to the plane crash (…) A joy for the country”indicated Petro On twitter.

However, and despite the emotion generated throughout the country, Petro deleted the message from his social networks and the military forces, to whom Petro attributed the discovery, denied any contact with the minors.

The information, announced by the president, stayed active for hours until the morning of May 18, when the news had already been celebrated by millions of Colombians.

“At this moment there is no other priority other than moving forward with the search until they are found. The lives of the children are the most important thing,” he added in his apology.

The alleged ransom was initially voiced by the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF): “On the afternoon of May 17, in the midst of searching for survivors of the HK 280 plane crash, which occurred on the border between Caquetá and Guaviare, information was received from the territory that ensures contact with the four children and girls who were part of the people who were transported in the aircraft.”

It is not the first time that Petro spreads false information

The confusion of the president of Colombia has an incentive: On January 1 of this year, he reported that the ELN, a guerrilla with which he is negotiating a peace process, had accepted a ceasefire.

However, the organization denied any understanding treaty. “The ELN Dialogue Delegation has not discussed with the Government of Gustavo Petro any proposal for a Bilateral CeasefireTherefore, there is still no agreement on this matter,” he said in a statement.
