The officials noticed the moped on Friday around 4 p.m. in the parking lot of a Paschinger shopping center. Because the vehicle had no license plates mounted, the police tried to stop and check the driver. However, he accelerated and drove straight towards one of the officers. Even when he screamed loudly and drew his gun, the driver kept heading towards the policeman, who was only able to avoid a collision by jumping to the side.

Despite the support of other patrols, the driver was able to escape for the time being. The investigation finally led the police to the 17-year-old owner of the moped from Linz, who vehemently denied having anything to do with the incident. He stated that he had lent his moped at the time of the crime.

On Saturday, however, the pressure was probably too great for the youth: he reported to the Leonding police station and made a remorseful confession. The young man was reported to the Linz public prosecutor’s office for resisting state authority and to the Linz-Land district authority for several illegal modifications to his moped.
