Uruguayan agriculture reaches new destinations in Latin America

The approval mentioned in the official account of Twitter of the Ministry is part of the process of authorization of refrigeration establishments to export to the Central American country, negotiated by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) and the Uruguayan Embassy in El Salvador.

This step supposes the strengthening of “the projection towards the markets of Central America, overcoming non-tariff barriers and creating opportunities for national production and labor”, as pointed out by the Foreign Ministry.

Likewise, the agreement is advancing at a time when meat exports have fallen precipitously after the drop in demand from China, the main destination of Uruguayan meat placements. In April, this figure plummeted by 37.7%, greatly affecting income to the country.

Mexico, the new destination for rapeseed

Important agreements were also reached with Mexico, based on the agreement regarding the phytosanitary requirements for the entry of rapeseed grain for consumption and/or industrial purposes from Uruguay.

“After the public consultation process before the WTO, and if there are no comments, the commercial flow can be started as of June 27, 2023”, explained the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on social networks.

“This progress is the result of the excellent cooperation between both countries,” he said, acknowledging the joint work with the MGAP and the Uruguayan embassy in the North American country.

It should be noted that rapeseed had the better yield among winter crops from last harvest, to the point of being considered the second crop in Uruguay, behind soybeans. Likewise, in 2022, Mexico imported 754 million dollars of rapeseed grains, the fourth importer worldwidewhich represents a great export potential for national producers.
