NEW YORK, May 26 (Reuters) – Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland President Loretta Mester told CNBC on Friday that she is not yet ready to say what the US central bank should do about interest rates. at your next monetary policy meeting.

“It’s probably not prudent to predict what the outcome of the meeting will be,” Mester said in response to a question about whether another rate hike is warranted at the June Federal Open Market Committee meeting.

But he also said that the data released on Friday underscores that the Federal Reserve will likely have to do more to bring price pressures back to the 2% target.

US consumer spending rose more than expected in April, boosting the economy’s growth outlook for the second quarter, while inflation picked up, which could prompt the Fed to raise interest rates again next month. (Reporting by Michael S. Derby; Editing in Spanish by Manuel Farías)
