An 89-year-old is said to have killed his partner’s 57-year-old son-in-law with a hunting weapon and then committed suicide. The trigger is said to have been a family dispute that has been going on for a long time, the police said on Friday. The victim lived in the same house as the perpetrator.

After the emergency call was received by the police shortly before 11 a.m., the emergency services deployed in large numbers. In addition to the standby unit and the rapid intervention force, the Cobra was also alerted, and a helicopter, drones, the southern negotiation group and the officers of the murder group were also on site. At first it was unclear what exactly had happened.

Family fled to the basement

The Cobra found four people in the basement of the two-family house in the Fluttendorf district who had fled there after the shots were fired. They were able to get out of the house unharmed. The police also discovered the body of the 57-year-old, who had a gunshot wound.

Since it was not clear where the shooter was, the building was not evacuated, but the area around it was secured extensively. Residents have been asked to stay in their homes. The negotiating group tried to contact the 89-year-old, but was unsuccessful.

Cobra officers finally searched the home and found the 89-year-old dead on the first floor. According to the police, he may have shot himself with his hunting rifle after fatally injuring the 57-year-old. The public prosecutor’s office in Graz ordered the seizure of the corpses, the autopsy and the examination by a firearms expert.
