According to the indictment, the woman is said to have performed non-essential dental treatment on at least 13 people from 2014 to 2020. Apart from unnecessary pain, the patients are said to have suffered damage of around 85,000 euros. The accused denied the allegations.

In his indictment, public prosecutor Rudolf Fauler also mentioned that the informational talks were inadequate and that the accused had claimed, in some cases untruthfully, towards their patients that certain treatments were necessary. In addition, there were false accounts.

The dentist’s defense attorney is convinced that the allegations are unfounded. He criticized the investigative process: massive violations of the principle of objectivity had happened. There was no interest in taking exculpatory evidence. Not all of the data was included in the report. In total, there are 80 treated teeth, all of which will be looked at individually, he announced. The process is therefore scheduled for several days. The first witnesses are due to be heard next week.

Appointments according to moon phases

First, however, the accused had his say. She pleaded not guilty and never intended to harm anyone during the treatments. Judge Michaela Lapanje then started questioning about the treatments of those patients who joined the procedure. Even with the first patient, the doctor described in detail which teeth she treated how and why. She described in detail the condition of the respective teeth that she treated or pulled at the root. “The patient wanted all of her amalgam fillings replaced.” The background to this was severe migraine symptoms and the woman had hoped for improvement from ceramic fillings, the accused explained. “At her request, we based our appointments on the phases of the moon and the signs of the zodiac,” says the dentist.

Questioning the accused will probably take several days, which is why the hearing will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday. The patient surveys will follow next week.
