There is good news today, Wednesday morning, from the Hydrographic Service of the State of Upper Austria: The maximum water levels on the Inn and the Upper Austrian Danube were already reached yesterday morning. The levels on the Danube generally show falling tendencies, but with fluctuating water levels. The warning limits of the Danube level remain undercut. According to the experts, it cannot be completely ruled out that the Schärding level will again reach the warning limit for a short time due to the fall in precipitation in the Upper Inn Valley and in Salzburger Land. The subsidence of precipitation later in the day should, however, lead to a relaxation of the runoff situation in the local watercourses.
Current forecasts
The peak values of the levels are as follows: level Ach 576 cm, level Schärding 682 cm, level
Achleiten 575 cm, gauge Linz 60 5 cm, gauge Mauthausen 585 cm, gauge Grein 958 cm.
After Linz’s Donaupark narrowly missed a flood, the first construction work for the visualized cloud of sound started there on September 9th. And in line with the extreme weather, this year’s open-air mega-event is dedicated to climate change.
Relaxation in Tyrol too
The federal state of Tyrol survived the flooding without injuries and is therefore probably with one “blue eye” escaped. On Tuesday, the situation eased and the water levels kept falling. The civil defense warnings for Schwaz and Kramsach issued on Monday were also lifted. An initial assessment showed that the damage to the public infrastructure amounted to around twelve million euros. The rear Ötztal was still not accessible.
