We’ve been thinking about such an action for a long time, but it hasn’t been possible for a long time due to Corona,” says Georg Manzeneder, chairman of the “ARGE Eine Welt” association, which runs the world shop at Grünmarkt in Steyr. In cooperation with the Museum Arbeitswelt, where the exhibition “Future Food – Food for the World of Tomorrow” is currently running, and the Schwechaterhof, a “fair dinner” was organized in time for the start of autumn. 46 guests, including deputy mayor Michael Schodermayr and city councilor Katrin Auerfollowed the invitation and welcomed the Schwechater-Wirt Wolfgang Potzl and his team around the chef Lisa Gajo pamper yourself with culinary delights. A four-course menu was served, mostly with ingredients from the world shop, where you could choose between a main course with meat and a vegetarian option. Between courses, Manzeneder also served information about the ingredients used as “intellectual food”: “Apart from meat and potatoes, we have practically all the ingredients in the world shop.”

The fair menu was not only well received by the guests, Pötzl was also enthusiastic about the new options: “Some things were unusual for us, but our cook Lisa likes to try new things and has been working with many of these ingredients for a long time.” What is already certain for Pötzl is that after this successful premiere there will be another fair dinner next year. “And in the future our menu will regularly feature one or two dishes with fair ingredients from the world shop.”
By the way: The fair menu – autumn salad, coconut ginger curry soup, chicken or savoy cabbage roulade and quinoa with dates and fruits – is now available to order at Schwechaterhof at any time with the right beer accompaniment.
