“We are deployed with sufficient forces and are clarifying the situation. Please avoid the area in large areas” – this is how the Vienna police addressed the population on X (formerly: Twitter) late Saturday evening. According to initial, as yet unconfirmed reports, it could be an escalation of rivalry between two gangs – but no further details were known for the time being.
According to information from the Vienna State Police Directorate, there was an exchange of fire in Floridusgasse. The perpetrators fled in two cars and the area was cordoned off. The professional rescue service provided emergency medical care to the injured – they had gunshot and cut injuries. According to police, in addition to at least one firearm, stabbing weapons were also used.
The getaway cars were recovered a short time later and led the police on the trail of the suspected perpetrators. A large contingent of emergency services – including the special units Cobra and WEGA – searched for the suspects at high speed.
At 10:44 p.m. the all-clear was finally given via X/Twitter: 4 suspects had been arrested. The injured are being cared for, but there is currently no danger to their lives.
