Laakirchen: Husband (66) stabs his wife

The bloody act occurred on Monday morning around 10:15 a.m. in the married couple’s apartment in Laakirchen (Gmunden district), confirmed Friedrich Stadlmayr, spokesman for the Upper Austrian State Police Directorate, to OÖNachrichten.

According to initial findings, the 60-year-old had threatened to evict the man from her condominium during an argument. Apparently with suicidal intent, the 66-year-old is said to have swallowed 30 blood pressure-lowering tablets and then stabbed the 60-year-old with a kitchen knife.

The woman barely survived. She was able to break away and call her brother for help, who alerted the rescue team. The suspect also called 911 before the knife attack, an initial report said.

Out of danger

The victim, who is said to have suffered serious injuries in the chest and shoulder area, was operated on at the Salzkammergut Clinic in Gmunden and is not in mortal danger, the police informed in the evening. The man was also initially taken to the hospital because he had taken the pills. The interview followed in the afternoon.

The police spokesman said he “fully confessed” to having stabbed his wife multiple times after an argument. After being questioned by the police, the 66-year-old was transferred to the prison in Wels.
