Forthuber: The chef with the recipe for success

An association founded in 1974 represents the cooperation of the best young chefs in Europe, which includes around 350 creative restaurateurs from 15 countries. The new addition to JRE Austria (Jeunes Restaurateurs) comes from Munderfing: the young innkeepers Doris and Christoph Forthuber from the restaurant of the same name in the old brewery in the middle of the town.

Passionate about gastronomy

Awarded three of the coveted toques in the Gault-Millau 2024, now admission to the elite circle of the top chefs association: Doris and Christoph Forthuber obviously know the recipe for success. “For us, becoming a member of the JRE is a dream come true because we can make a difference together with young top chefs and share the endless passion for gastronomy,” says Christoph Forthuber.

Before his time in Munderfing, the Pischelsdorf-born innkeeper and award-winning chef worked in well-known restaurants around Salzburg, in Vienna at Mochi and in Schütz at Taubenkobel. For several years he cooked in Munich at Tantris and in Switzerland at SchlossSchauenstein.

In April 2018, the couple took over the newly renovated brewery in Munderfing, which was built at the end of the 18th century. A beautiful stage for landlady and chef who, in collaboration with local producers, focus on regionality, creativity, down-to-earthness and nature.

Menu or classics

Fine dining and tavern cuisine are now combined within the historic walls. The menu offers a tasting menu in the evening alongside classics such as Wiener Schnitzel. The host, Doris Forthuber, takes care of the wine accompaniment. As a sommelier, the Styrian native brings in her expertise and professional experience from the hotel industry and marketing.
