RB Leipzig parted ways with coach Marsch

Assistant coach Achim Beierlorzer will sit on the bench in the Champions League against Manchester City on Tuesday. They want to present a successor to Marsch as soon as possible.

“It is a shame that it did not work out as hoped in this constellation and that this step has now become necessary because unfortunately the desired development and thus the necessary results for our season goals did not materialize,” said managing director Oliver Mintzlaff in a club broadcast. At the moment they are chasing after their own demands and now want to “set a new impulse with this decision”.

After his successful time in Salzburg, the 48-year-old Marsch only took up the post at the RB sister club in Leipzig in the summer. As an assistant to Ralf Rangnick, he had already been in Leipzig in 2018/19. Most recently, he was unable to stand on the sidelines for three games due to a corona infection, but virtually looked after the team with ÖFB team player Konrad Laimer from quarantine.

The successor of Julian Nagelsmann, who had migrated to Bayern Munich, had no credit after the club’s novelty of three Bundesliga defeats in a row at Mintzlaff. Immediately after the 1: 2 at Union Berlin, the club boss announced a radical analysis of the situation.

In 14 league games, Marsch only scored 18 points and was only eleventh on Sunday. Not a single win was achieved away. After the zigzag course of the first few months with quite good performances like the 6: 0 against Hertha BSC, the performance curve had shown radically downwards in the league after the bright spot at 5: 0 in Bruges.
