At around 12:55 p.m. today, train traffic in the east of Linz came to a standstill. In the area of the freight road, a truck crashed into a pillar of the underpass over which the tracks of the western route run.
According to information from the Federal Railways, no one was injured in the accident, only the vehicle suffered major damage. A technician responsible for emergencies from ÖBB then checked whether the statics and load-bearing capacity of the bridge were affected by the impact.
At around 1:30 p.m. the expert was able to give the all-clear. According to ÖBB spokesman Klaus Baumgartner, such checks are necessary after collisions with infrastructure. “Even if it was unlikely that the bridge was not damaged – safety simply comes first in such cases,” says Baumgartner when asked by OÖN.
