The Berlin Court yesterday found Russian Vadim Krasikov, alias Vadim Sokolov, guilty of having shot and killed a former Chechen separatist leader in a park in the German capital and concluded that this murder was directly ordered by the Russian authorities.
Germany then announced the expulsion of two Russian diplomats.
“All this is part of the unpleasant episodes of our bilateral relations, but we believe that this cannot influence the establishment of a dialogue between the president (Vladimir Putin and the new German Chancellor ” Olaf ScholzPeskov assured.
For its part, the Russian Foreign Ministry on Thursday denounced a decision “unfounded” and “totally unrelated to reality.”
In a statement, it warned Germany that Russia will “take reciprocal action” in response.
Tornike Kavtarashvili, 40, had fought against Russian forces between 2000 and 2004. Since 2016, she has lived with her family in Germany, where she had applied for asylum.
According to the German prosecutor’s office, the convicted man shot the victim twice and a third time in the head, when he was already on the ground. Krasikov was arrested shortly after.
The Kremlin always denied any involvement in this crime.
