The sun is already low and it will be the last descent for today. From the Hochmaisalm down to Hinterthal there are still a few hundred meters of altitude difference, there are still a few beautiful, long turns. And then? Out of your ski boots and straight into the Urslauerhof’s heated outdoor pool, which can be easily seen from up here? Or warm up first in the “Finnish”? Or just give in to hunger in the knowledge of the excellent cuisine of this four-star hotel?
“Mama just loves to cook so passionately”. This sentence from hotel manager Claudia Kraker-Neumayr about her mother Adelheid from this morning still resonates. Once the memory of the menu for the announced evening menu has been kissed awake, the decision to organize the evening in the cozy house is easier: the “Hoamat evening” promises fine spreads, cream cheese pralines, two soups to choose from, an oven-fresh roast roast, salad from the buffet, choux pastry donuts and, and, and ?? The times are rosy and a fine evening is on the horizon. The first turns are quickly made, a few minutes later the final stop. Now is the time!
37 years ago Adelheid and Wilhelm Kraker bought the house right on the curve of Hochkönigstrasse down to Hinterthal and expanded it bit by bit. But always with care, with heart, taste and feeling. “Our motto is: Oafach, honest, mia. We never wanted to get bigger, but always better,” says Claudia Kraker-Neumayr, explaining the philosophy of the family business in a broad Pinzgau dialect, and the youngest offspring, four-year-old Alexander, acknowledges it with one attentive smile.
Speaking of children, they too are part of the company’s “Mia” philosophy. Own menu, playroom, friendly and indulgent treatment.
The outstanding area with the well-known places Maria Alm, Mühlbach and Dienten in the Steinernen Meer with the 2941 meter high Hochkönig as the most powerful elevation shows itself from a beautiful side all year round. The hiking area is expansive and has a suitable offer for every taste and level of fitness. The Hochkönig Card is particularly attractive in summer and entitles you to free travel on all summer railways, among other things.
Free choice of boards
Now, in winter, 150 kilometers of slopes are accessible on foot directly from the Urslauerhof. As a bonus, the hotel also offers its own ski rental.
Whereby the mobile board-shaped base doesn’t necessarily have to be tailored: Even passionate cross-country skiers can choose between two cross-country trails right from the hotel. Leisurely horse-drawn sleigh rides are aimed at the romantically inclined hotel audience, three quarters of which are regular guests. Another quality feature.
Rapid toboggan runs are available on the natural toboggan run from the Jufenalm down to Maria Alm. The 2.5-kilometer route is illuminated and can also be used at night. Toboggans can be rented for six euros (two-seater), and transport to the train is also possible.
All of this came together in thought over a cozy coffee at the hotel bar. Now to the buffet. Wait – the hotel manager said something else. There was talk of ski touring. From a tour the few hundred meters up to the Hochmaisalm. “This is what guests do every now and then before dinner.”
