Paysandu became the department with the highest unemployment rate in the country after reaching 12.9% during the first quarter, while the entire coast and the north of the country continue to be affected by the lack of employment and the difference is clear with the regions south of the Negro River.

The data comes from the latest report on “Labor Market by Geographic Area of ​​Residence” prepared by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) for the first three months of the year.

In the last measurement that covered the period December 2023 – February 2024, Paysandú was positioned as the fifth department with the highest unemployment with 11.1%, behind Artigas, Thirty-three, Leapand Black river, which led the ranking with 12.8%. During the first quarter of the year, Río Negro fell to 12.2%, while Paysandú climbed to first position by climbing from 11.1% to 12.9%.

The unemployment podium during the first quarter was completed by the departments of Artigas and Treinta y Tres, with 12.7% and 12.4%, respectively.

The department with greater number of informal workers (not registered with social security) was Artigas, with 55.8%, closely followed by Cerro Largo with 47.0%. At the same time, Montevideo It was once again the department with the most formal workers, since non-registration there is 14.1%.
