The amount of damage so far is around 90,000 euros, the state police department reported on Monday. The crimes took place throughout the city of Vienna. The two suspicious women are said to have first asked for directions, opened a map of the city and then reached into the pockets of the elderly victims. In many cases, purchases were then paid for with the stolen bank cards. A spokesman reported that accomplices could also be involved in the crimes.

The duo is now being sought with an EU arrest warrant. “It is entirely possible that the suspects are already abroad,” the spokesman said. In this context, the investigators also asked the public for help and published photos from the surveillance cameras of various banks.
