Two medical members of the surgical team have been suspended from duty until the matter has been clarified, the Styrian Hospital Association (KAGes) announced on Friday. The Graz public prosecutor’s office confirmed that investigations are underway following an anonymous complaint.

The incident is said to have occurred in May at the University Clinic for Neurosurgery. According to KAGes, the operation was carried out without complications. However, only interns and students are allowed to be in the operating room. At the end of May, two members of the medical operating team were therefore placed on leave of absence.

An anonymous report was received by the public prosecutor’s office some time ago. Investigations are currently underway and the exact facts and identities of all persons present must be established, said the spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office, Hansjörg Bacher, in response to an APA inquiry.
