Emergency services advise caution
Whether in Central Greece, the Peloponnese peninsula, the Cyclades or Crete – in many regions of Greece temperatures will exceed 40, and in some cases even reach 45 degrees, from Tuesday and in the following days, according to the Greek weather service.
The Greek Red Cross advises people not to stay in the sun, close the shutters, drink plenty of water and eat light meals. People should stay in touch with friends and family to ensure that older people in particular are doing well. Alcohol is not recommended, as is outdoor sports. Children and animals should not be left in the car during the day, and pets and stray cats and dogs should be provided with water.
Fire brigade concerned
The fire service also expressed concern. After a dry winter and because of the unusually high temperatures since the beginning of June, the risk of forest fires is very high, especially in central Greece, the authority reported on Twitter.
The Turkish weather service also warned of a heat wave in the west of the country on Tuesday and Wednesday and temperatures of up to 45 degrees. That is about twelve degrees more than usual at this time of year. Citizens should not be outdoors between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., especially the elderly, children and chronically ill people.
