Fireworks explosion: young Lower Austrian dead

Shortly after midnight in the Baden district, a 23-year-old was fatally injured in the explosion of a bullet bomb. Several PVC pipes were used to detonate the explosive device in Leopoldsdorf at a New Year’s Eve party with ten people. Because one of the bombs did not go off immediately, four people approached the fireworks when it exploded. The 23-year-old was fatally injured. A 21-year-old was seriously injured, a 19-year-old and another male were slightly injured.

The exploded spherical bomb was a category F4 fireworks. Whether the 23-year-old had the necessary proof of specialist knowledge is still the subject of the investigation. The bomb is believed to have exploded immediately after it was detonated. The incident is reminiscent of the tragic New Year’s Eve from 2018 to 2019 in Eberschwang, Ried district. A 17-year-old was killed three years ago when a bullet bomb, also category F4, was detonated. A pyrotechnician who was not allowed to sell the ball bomb to the youth was sentenced to eight months’ conditional imprisonment and a fine of 14,400 euros in a court case.

In Upper Austria in Sankt Peter am Hart, Braunau district, two young people were injured while handling a fireworks rocket. The 17-year-old and the 16-year-old suffered injuries of indefinite degree and had to be taken to the Braunau hospital by ambulance.

When a fireworks rocket ignited, two young people aged 16 and 17 were seriously injured in the face and eyes on New Year’s Eve in the Zillertal. According to the police, the 17-year-old first ignited the rocket, but it did not start. He then ignited the very short fuse, whereupon the rocket suddenly exploded. The two young people were taken to a hospital in Innsbruck with the rescue.

Fell out of the window

A New Year’s Eve celebration for several people between 19 and 39 years in the Wels city area got completely out of hand. According to the police, a 19-year-old opened a living room window three quarters of an hour before midnight to throw a firecracker out of the window. Then the man sat on the windowsill. From there, the Welser fell and fell about four meters onto the sidewalk below. The 19-year-old had to be brought to the Wels Clinic.
