After the accidental death of a 16-year-old, residents of Linden respond with loud protests. As reported in the previous week, the second fatal collision at the intersection of Sattledter / Eberstalzeller Landesstrasse brought the people’s soul to a boil in just a short time. Resident Harald Scheureder made allegations against the authority. Accidents at this intersection are the order of the day. The safety equipment left a lot to be desired.
District chief Elisabeth Schwetz reacted to the allegations. She sent her traffic lawyer to the scene of the accident. After the fatal collision with a 76-year-old moped driver in August 2020, the first measures had already been taken, according to Schwetz: “Since the intersection has often been the scene of serious accidents, we have carried out investigations to bring about an improvement.”
After the last check, so-called psychological brakes and larger stop signs as well as pictograms were installed as floor markings. In order to improve visibility, the road maintenance department also put a warning sign.
For Mayor Thomas Steinerberger (VP), the precautions do not go far enough: “We are calling for Tempo 30 in the village, lane dividers on both sides and a fixed radar device. Another improvement would be stop signs that flash at night.”
The relocation of the intersection, demanded by residents, has already been checked: “The new street would have passed too close to the inn,” Steinerberger justified the refusal.
The head of the authorities announces further discussions: “We will work out the procedure and the possibility of a structural adaptation together,” says Schwetz. The results of the latest traffic census are eagerly awaited. Steinerberger expects a sharp increase in heavy traffic.
The youngest fatality was the passenger of an 18-year-old driver who cut off the priority of a truck at the intersection on Tuesday. Both occupants were injured in the collision. The emergency doctor called for help could no longer help the young table tennis talent from Pettenbach.
