The White House has prepared a new package of military assistance to Ukraine. This was reported on Friday, January 7, by NBC News, citing sources.
“Administration [президента США Джо] Biden has also prepared a new US military aid package for Ukraine, in addition to US military aid already flowing to Kiev, ”the statement said.
According to the source, Kiev hopes that the administration intends to approve additional assistance.
On December 18, Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov announced the country’s desire to receive not only defensive, but also offensive weapons from its Western partners. He noted that the Ukrainian military will defend themselves with it, the main thing is to get it.
A day earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Ukrainian authorities are fooling their citizens, turning them against Russia. According to him, the Ukrainian authorities are broadcasting hostility towards the Russian Federation, as a result of which the relations between the states are “chopped off in the bud.”
Then, on December 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry published draft agreements between Russia and the United States and NATO on security guarantees. It follows from the documents that the alliance should refuse to conduct any military activity on the territory of Ukraine and other states of Eastern Europe, Transcaucasia and Central Asia.
In addition, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that the involvement of Ukraine in NATO and the prospect of deploying NATO strike missile systems near the borders of the Russian Federation are an unacceptable threat to security.
Russian-American talks on strategic stability and security issues will take place on January 10. Thereafter, on January 12, the issue of European security and the situation in Ukraine will be discussed at a meeting of the NATO-Russia Council and on January 13 with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
