In Paris alone, 18,000 people took to the streets, reported France Info, with reference to the Ministry of the Interior. There were protests across the country in numerous cities, which again met with significantly more support than in previous weeks.
Occasionally the police had to take action against riots. The protests focus on planned drastic restrictions for the unvaccinated. Soon they should no longer have access to cinemas, bars or long-distance trains. The legislative proposal has not yet passed parliament. There had been heated debates about it in the House of Commons.
France is currently hard hit by the pandemic. The incidence value, i.e. the registered infections per 100,000 people within a week, was last at 2,528. The protests were also fueled by President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement in an interview that he wanted to annoy unvaccinated people in the corona pandemic to the end. Macron had used a colloquial vocabulary, which earned him fierce criticism from the opposition and society.
