The leader of Vamos Uruguay added the Batllistas’ representative to the single list for the Senate, as well as providing important support in the dispute for the party’s leadership.

The leader of the Colorado Party and now a candidate for senator, Pedro Bordaberry, continues to gain support within the party ahead of the October elections to head a single list, the List 10; but also to consolidate himself as the next leader of the Colorados, disputing the place of the presidential candidate – and winner of the primaries – Andres Ojeda. Now, the arrival of the former minister of Tourism and former candidate Tabare Viera and, with it, an important sector of Batllists.

Following the announcement of the agreement with the historic List 15 from the hand of the former president of Antel and also a former presidential candidate, Gabriel Gurméndez, and with a sector of Ciudadanos – who broke away, at the level of the candidacies for Senate, of Grow, the umbrella that brings together the support of Robert Silva—; This Wednesday the alliance of Batllistas with Let’s go Uruguay from the addition of Viera to Bordaberry’s campaign. And, possibly, also to the single list.

In this regard, Bordaberry pointed out the management of Viera and the Colorado Party in the Intendancy of Rivera as “a successful experience”, which in his opinion “is an example to follow”, as he pointed out in a press conference. With the former Minister of Tourism, other referents of Batllism also arrived on List 10, such as German Coutinho, Walter Verri, Tabare Hackenbruch and Adrian Juri.

For his part, Viera highlighted the Vamos Uruguay leader as a “leader” and a “great politician,” and highlighted his characteristics of “honesty, hard work and intelligence.”

In the current list of List 10, headed by Bordaberry, Gurméndez would be the first substitute while Viera would occupy the second place, with Coutinho as the substitute.

The support of two ministers

Within the movement of support generated by Bordaberry’s return to the political scene – which would be putting Ojeda at a disadvantage in relation to his objective of becoming the leader of the Colorado Party, vacant post since the resignation of Julio Maria Sanguinetti—, the rapprochement of a group from the Ciudadanos sector also involved the arrival of two current ministers of the coalition government: Fernando Mattos (Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries) and Robert Bouvier (Environment).

“Today, this sector, which has a number of high-quality colleagues representing us, wants to inform you that Ciudadanos is going to wear the 10 in October. It is going to work with Pedro Bordaberry in view of these elections on October 27, with its slogan Let’s go Uruguay and List 10,” the deputy announced on Tuesday Walter Cervini from the Acuña de Figueroa room of the annex building of the Legislative Palace.
