Weather at Kitz races “not ideal” according to meteorologists

“There is no massively nice weather to be expected,” said the meteorologist on duty from the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) in Innsbruck of the APA – Austria Press Agency on Tuesday.

The expert announced that a wet current was looming on Thursday. Snowfall is to be expected, especially on Thursday, but also on Sunday, although “sporadic snow showers” cannot be ruled out on Friday and Saturday either. “Certainly not easy conditions for the races,” commented the meteorologist. The temperatures will be in the minus range over the entire course, and there will be brisk winds at times.

The forecast for the Friday departure was the most optimistic: “We only expect a few sun windows for the weekend,” said the ZAMG expert, “but on Friday it could loosen up a bit in between”. Even on Sunday, when the slalom will take place, the sun could be seen from time to time, the meteorologist was cautiously optimistic.

In any case, not only the weather forecast in Kitzbühel is currently “not ideal”, but also the general conditions. According to the AGES Corona Dashboard, the seven-day incidence was 3,638.1 as of Tuesday morning. Due to corona, 1,000 spectators are allowed this year after the “ghost race” last year. Despite massively increased security precautions, the chamois town made negative headlines at the weekend after it became known that Runtastic founder Florian Gschwandtner had partied in an apres-ski bar. The executive and authorities announced an “action sharp”.
