They authorize the activation of the recall process against Maduro

The decision was made by the agency after approving three requests “to start the procedure for an eventual activation of the mechanism contemplated in the Venezuelan constitution.

“The approved requests, received by the CNE after last January 10, were promoted by the promoter groups Venezuelan Movement for the Recall (Mover), All United for the Recall Referendum and the National Executive Committee of Confedejunta, in conjunction with the Committee for National and International Democracy,” he reported Monday night through social networks.

In addition, he stated that “in these petitions, the groups declare their intention to become promoters of a request to activate a Recall Referendum, which is the first step in accordance with the provisions of the Rules to Regulate the Promotion and Request for Recall Referendums of Mandates of Popular Election”.

Also, he highlighted that the eventual activation of a referendum request will require that 20% of those registered in the Electoral Registry express their will, as established in article 72 of the Venezuelan Constitution.

“Declared this Monday the origin of the requests, the National Electoral Board must now prepare a schedule for the collection of these wills,” he said.

The CNE’s statement came hours after leaders of the Venezuelan Movement for the Recall together with members of civil society requested the activation of the recall in an activity that, according to the organizers, was replicated at the headquarters of the electoral body in 21 of the 23 states. Venezuelans.

“This is a citizen, unitary, humble and modest act without people waiting for a position. We are simply those who believe that the country needs to unlock the game and that it must do so on the basis of deciding if it wants to continue with this or if, for the On the contrary, he wants to turn the page and start a new route,” Nelson Chitty La Roche, a constitutional lawyer and member of Mover, said the day before.

Maduro completed half of his second term on January 10 (2019-2025) that he won in the 2018 elections unknown to a large part of the international community and denounced as “fraudulent” by the majority opposition for not having the minimum electoral guarantees.

In 2016, the opposition tried to activate a recall referendum against the socialist ruler that was blocked by the CNE, after accepting rulings by the Supreme justice court, marked as chavista, against the process.

Venezuela is submerged in a prolonged political-economic crisis that worsened after the opposition leader Juan Guaido, head of Parliament elected in 2015, did not recognize Maduro’s legitimacy as constitutional president, and proclaimed an interim government led by him with the support of several countries led by the United States and the European Union.
