National Guardsman who shot his colleagues in Dnipro pleaded guilty

Serviceman of the National Guard of Ukraine Artem Ryabchuk, who shot his colleagues in the Dnieper, admitted his guilt in court. The meeting on choosing a preventive measure was held on January 28 in the Kirovsky District Court of the city.

“I sincerely feel sorry for those people whom I hurt with my act. I am guilty and fully aware of my guilt,” he said.

According to Ryabchuk, it is hard for him to remember what happened.

During the meeting, the serviceman asked the judge not to send him to the guardhouse, but to send him to a pre-trial detention center.

Journalists were not allowed into the courtroom. Ryabchuk is a suspect in a case of premeditated murder and desertion.

The incident occurred on the territory of the Southern Machine-Building Plant. Conscript soldier Artem Ryabchuk took an AK-47 assault rifle from the armory and shot his colleagues in the guardroom. As a result, five people died and five more were injured.

After the shooting, Ryabchuk fled, taking weapons and ammunition with him. The police detained him on the same day in the city of Podgorodnoye, Dnepropetrovsk region.

Against the backdrop of what happened, the commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, Mykola Balan, resigned. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that he expects law enforcement officers to fully inform the public about the circumstances of the shooting in the Dnieper. On January 28 and 29 mourning was declared in the city.
