History does not tell from a male perspective: In his new play “The first – of the women who discovered the world” for children aged eight years. The one-person piece will be premiered on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the child’s Linz theater as part of the “Schäxpir” festival (more next door).
Simone Neumayr slips into the roles of four discoverers from four centuries: Jeanne Baret reversed the world from 1766 to 1769. From 1842, the Viennese Ida Pfeiffer traveled four continents, wrote 13 books about it and collected 5000 objects that are now stored in the Vienna Kunsthistorisches Museum. Valentina Tereschkowa was the first woman in space, but later supported President Vladimir Putin’s Ukraine War as a politician of President Vladimir Putin. Polar researcher Felicity Aston was the first woman to cross the Antarctic alone in 2012.
No male domain
“Discovery trips are still considered a male domain,” says Mason. He wanted to show that this is not true: “However, the stories of explorers have so far not been told too little.” The four women should be a role model for girls: “We want to tell you: Hey, you could be.” The four portraits are embedded in a framework around the fictional figure Perdita Polaris, which collects stories of pioneers of all kinds. With Michaela Mandel (stage), Anna Katharina Jaritz (costumes) and Stephanie Hacker (Music), Mason wants to tell a rapid, entertaining and surprising story.
