Are you successful or a failure? This is how Warren Buffett measures it

Not everyone is looking for the same thing, which can be professional development, money, love, family happiness, or any other material or spiritual thing.

Measuring success or failure in a person’s life is not the same as when we talk about a business. Not everyone is looking for the same thing, which can be professional development, money, love, family happiness, or any other material or spiritual thing.

Billionaire investor Warren Buffett has his own formula for measuring success, as do others like Elon Muskas Steve Jobs had, or institutions like Harvard.

In the case of what is known as the ‘Oracle of Omaha’, it includes ingredients such as continuous learning, concentration and firmness, facing fears, avoiding certain risks, working on what you are passionate about and creating the habit of saving, among others.

However, Warren Buffett has also preached other, more personal values, such as building a good reputation and behaving with goodness and kindness, which ends up influencing other people to want to do business with him. The president of Berkshire Hathaway places great importance on relationships and friendship.

It is worth remembering a speech that Warren Buffett gave in 2001 at the University of Georgia. There he shared what he considers “the ultimate test” to find out if a person has been successful in his life.

“When you get to my age, you’ll really measure your success in life by how many of the people you want to love you really love you,” Buffett said, in a conference with an informal tone and relaxed moments with the students.

And he concluded: “I know people who have a lot of money and who receive testimonial dinners and hospital wings with their name. But the truth is that nobody in the world loves them. If you reach my age and nobody thinks well of you, I don’t care. It doesn’t matter how big your bank account is: your life is a mess. That’s the ultimate test of how you’ve lived your life,” he said.
