Grünberg restaurateur Franz Pernkopf, Willi Klinger, the managing director of Wien & Co, as well as the sommeliers of the OÖ Nachrichten, Philipp Braun and Hans Stoll, invited well-known winegrower legends to this eventful evening again this year. Christina Saahs from Nikolaihof in Mautern, Leo Alzinger from Dürnstein, Willi Bründlmayer from Langenlois, Georg Winkler-Hermaden from Weingut Schloss Kapfenstein and Matthias Leitner from Gols came together to spend an evening with many wine lovers.
The host family Franz, Michael and Claudia Pernkopf served up a delicious menu, with the dishes from the excellent Grünberg kitchen being accompanied by award-winning wines from the winegrowers present. The moderators were able to elicit a lot of background information from the guests of honor. Christina Saahs gave an example of why she had already switched to biodynamic farming in the vineyards at a certain time (after all, 50 years ago). At a time when hardly anyone knew what to do with biodynamics. Leo Alzinger explained why the Wachau is defined by the special vineyards and what advantages it brings to define not only the area but also the local origin. A good-natured Willi Bründlmayer informed the extremely interested audience about the path that had to be taken in order to lead his company to the international top in the early 1980s. The insights into his private life are also interesting, as his wife Edwige, who was born in Paris, motivated him to produce sparkling wines that can easily compete in the champagne league.
A lot could be elicited from the Southeast Styrian Georg Winkler-Hermaden about the very up-and-coming volcanic region of Styria. Matthias Leitner, on the other hand, was in a good mood and gave a detailed, cunning and funny insight into what sales talent a winegrower should have and how the Pannobile came about. In the end, everyone present agreed: A more than entertaining evening with pure culinary delights and wine legends who obviously felt at home with friends. The fourth edition of this unique event is eagerly awaited.
