World Environment Day: regeneration as the key to achieving change

About 5 years ago, I first saw a “Mother Nature” video, produced by the organization Conservation International. Julia Roberts’s voice raises the power of nature and its pre-existence to manand represents an excellent excuse to reflect on the connection of humans with nature and as parts of a larger ecosystem.

In recent years, with the undisputed impulse of Covid-19, humanity showed how interconnected we arewith our environment and with other societies.

We certainly live in a moment of great opportunity and crisis that challenges us and calls to change the way we are using resources. We know that the planet needs a change, perhaps without being fully aware of the urgency.

Environment

The planetary overloadas well as the finiteness of natural resources and climate change they crossed the vocabulary of the environmental specialists to be installed in the government, corporate and civil society agendas.

Reconnect with nature and regenerate ecosystems, along with the deep change implementation in the way of producing and consuming, is a challenge that summons us all. Today we have the opportunity to live and do things in a different way. It does not matter if the actions come from the public or private sector, from the type of industry, and it does not matter if it is a multinational or an SME.

World Environment Day

From AmCham Argentina, 25 years of the Business Citizenship Award (PCE) are celebratedone of the most prestigious awards within the corporate scope who recognizes sustainability initiatives and new business models triple impact and regenerative businesses. This recognition accompanied the evolution of sustainability and in some moments of these 25 years pushed the frontiers of the subject.

In this quarter of a century, The sustainability agenda gained relevance and occupies a priority place on the companies’ agenda, but the challenges we face are no longer the same, natural resources are finite, some are at risk and we have problems on a global scale. That is why we need concrete actions and a deep awareness that allows us to do things differently. Businesses that collaborate not only to reduce the climate impact, but also to repair the damage caused.

For this reason, in 2023 we introduce the regeneration lookposing it as a horizon of change in the logic of action regardless of the origin of the actors, which could allow us to achieve objectives that today are very difficult to achieve.

Putting the health of ecosystems and people at the center of our decisions is a purpose that undoubtedly challenges us all.
