More than 40% of the monthly norm of precipitation fell per day in the Moscow region

Over 40% of the monthly norm of precipitation fell in the Moscow region per day. This was announced on Wednesday, December 8, by the press service of the regional ministry of transport and road infrastructure.

Heavy snowfall began in the region on the night of December 7th. Forecasters recorded over the past day an absolute record for the precipitation rate for this day – up to 10 cm of snow.

Due to snowfall, the road services of the Moscow region were transferred to an enhanced mode of operation. In total, over 40% of the monthly precipitation rate fell on the territory of the region during the day.

According to the Minister of Transport of the region Alexey Gerzhik, in the Moscow region more than 34 thousand km of roads have been processed and cleared per day. Now more than 1.6 thousand units of road equipment and over 1.8 thousand workers are involved in the process, the Moscow city news agency notes.

Gerzhik explained that during snowfalls, specialists carry out several cycles of cleaning and deicing roads. First, road services clear snow from the roadway, after which they treat it with anti-ice materials, and then do a second cleaning.

First of all, work is carried out on outbound highways, access roads to social infrastructure facilities, public transport routes, on approaches to bus stations, stations and MCD. After that, work is carried out on roads with less traffic.

As the TV channel “360” notes, light snow will pass on December 8 as well. In some places, wind gusts can reach 10 m / s. In addition, ice is formed. The Ministry of Transport urged drivers and pedestrians to be careful, not to exceed the permissible speed, to slow down in advance at traffic lights.
