Based on the statement of Ekaterina Babich, on Wednesday she and her husband were stopped by the traffic police on Panfilov Street to check the documents. A couple of minutes later, a white Lada Vesta drove up to them. According to the woman, there were four people in civilian clothes unknown to her in the car. They did not introduce themselves, put Babich in a car and drove away in an unknown direction. Ekaterina did not remember the number of the car.
“The deputy’s wife turned to lawyer Andrei Aleshkin to represent Babich’s interests, who found out that he was not among those detained both in the duty unit and in the criminal investigation department,” the statement says.
The police are checking. The deputy’s wife asks to initiate a criminal case into the abduction of her husband.
Earlier that day, Valentin Rozin, a deputy of the Koverninsky municipal district of the Nizhny Novgorod region, was shot in the heart. The 59-year-old official has died in hospital. On suspicion of committing a crime, 39-year-old Sergei Smirnov was detained. According to some reports, the man had previously been prosecuted for robbery and theft.
