After the Government decided to remove Fernando Luis Mengo from Córdoba as head of the Air Force, accused of improper use of military aircraft for personal purposes and investigated for complaints of sexual harassment, the authorities already have the name of his replacement.

According to sources from the Casa Rosada, the person who will lead the Air Force will be Brigadier Gustavo Javier Valverde. He was chosen by President Javier Milei himself, with the recommendation of Defense Minister Luis Petri.

The new head of the Force is an experienced fighter pilot with extensive experience in aviation. He has flown A-4B, A4-C and A4-R aircraft, and was a flight instructor at the Fighter School in Spain, where he flew F-5 weapons systems.

His experience in managing radars was key to his appointment. Valverde led the implementation of a new radar in Santa Fe, which allowed the detection and tracking of a drug plane, which culminated in the seizure of 500 kilos of cocaine. This achievement was highlighted by Minister Petri, who considers Valverde to be an “impeccable” person.

In addition, he also has international experience. In 2020, he was Defense Attaché in Spain, with extension in Morocco and the Netherlands. Meanwhile, he was also head of the Development Operations Department of the Joint Aerospace Command during the G-20.
