The body of a woman who drowned on Epiphany was found using underwater cameras

The body of a woman who drowned in an ice hole in the Leningrad region was discovered using underwater cameras. This was told by the head of the emergency rescue service of the All-Russian Society for Water Rescue (VOSVOD) Alexander Zuev on Friday, January 28.

According to Zuev, an extensive operation to search for the woman’s body began on January 24. VOSVOD rescuers and volunteers from the Moscow Dobrotvorets squad arrived at the scene. Relatives of the deceased, including her husband, also participated in the search.

“The body was found by joint efforts today (January 28) in the morning, checking all points, about a kilometer from the scene of the tragedy behind the Christmas Bridge. Relatives bought a special underwater camera that could be lowered into the holes. With its help, they examined the water column, ”Zuev’s words were reported in the Federal News Agency.

The tragedy occurred during Epiphany bathing in the Oredezh River on January 19. After the incident, a video of the incident was posted on social media. The footage shows how a woman jumps into an ice hole and does not appear again from the water, people around start screaming that she was carried away by the current.

On January 25, the investigation department for the city of Gatchina of the investigation department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Leningrad Region initiated a criminal case into the death of a woman. The family bathed in a makeshift hole, although there was a specially equipped font nearby, where rescuers and doctors were on duty.

On January 28, the body of 41-year-old Anna Uskova was discovered 150 meters from the Rozhdestvensky Bridge downstream, a kilometer from the ice hole. A representative of the regional department of the Investigative Committee said that the husband identified the body of the drowned woman.
