FDP defense expert: “Only those who are strong will not be attacked”

In view of the Ukraine war, the Bundeswehr is to be massively upgraded. But is this really the right way? Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, member of the FDP federal board, says: “Only those who are strong will not be attacked.”

The Bundeswehr is not doing well. And not just since yesterday. Airmen that don’t fly. Guns that don’t shoot properly. And soldiers without gloves. The armaments budget of the Bundeswehr has been cut for years. But that should be the end of it now! Germany is arming itself. Chancellor Olaf Scholz has promised the Bundeswehr 100 billion euros to modernize and upgrade the troops – or to make them combat-ready? What the money is used for and why this immense investment should be necessary for the Bundeswehr, we spoke to defense expert Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann in episode 223 of “Today Important”. She is a member of the FDP federal board and has been warning of such a war for a long time. She believes that only those who are strong will not be attacked.

Will Ukraine now become a member of the EU?

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed an application for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. And he calls it: A historic moment! And Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, responded promptly and said Ukraine is one of us and we want them in. Now the question is: is it that easy? Does this application actually make Ukraine a member of the EU? Carsten Mierke explained on N-TV that unfortunately it’s not quite that simple. Such admission would require a wide variety of votes, would entail a number of changes in the law and, above all, would take several years even in the urgent procedure due to the many bureaucratic hurdles. The signing of this application is therefore more of a symbolic act – and yet an important one. Because what Selenskyj has been sending to his compatriots on Twitter and via video messages in the last few days is one thing above all: the strong feeling “we are not alone, we stick together and we have many friends in the world who are helping us these days”. . Exactly the opposite of what Putin has achieved in his country. Respect, Mr Zelenskyj!
