Because Dornauer did not rule out a coalition with the VP under Sebastian Kurz after the next National Council election in an interview, he is now being violently attacked by the SP youth. Socialist youth, Aktion Kritischer Schler (AKS) and the Association of Socialist Students (VSSt) were “horrified and dismayed”. “This means that people are flirting with a system that is in complete opposition to basic socialist values,” was the criticism of the red youth. Dornauer’s statements are tantamount to breaking a taboo.
Dornauer’s sympathy for the restrictive asylum and immigration policies of the Danish Social Democrats is also a thorn in the side of the SP youth organizations. “It is clear to us that we need a solidary, pan-European asylum policy that does not play with people’s fears and resentments,” said Tobias Khle, Chairman of the VSSt Innsbruck.
