The federally financed offer of free corona rapid tests for all citizens is to end on October 10th – from October 11th you usually have to pay for them yourself. Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the Prime Ministers of the federal states agreed on this during deliberations on Tuesday, as the German Press Agency learned from several sources from among the participants. A final agreement on the entire resolution paper on the corona course for autumn and winter was still pending. “Spiegel” and “Tagesschau” also reported on this understanding.

Exceptions for certain groups of people

Since the beginning of March, the federal government has been paying for at least one quick test per week for all citizens. Since a direct vaccination offer can now be made to everyone, a permanent assumption of the costs for all tests by the taxpayer is not indicated, it said in a draft decision.

However, there should continue to be free rapid tests for people who cannot be vaccinated and for whom there is no general vaccination recommendation – in particular pregnant women and under-18s.
