The Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security announced this Thursday in Parliament the creation of the post of Social Security Users Ombudsman and announced that the economist Mariana Trigo Pereira will coordinate a commission to diversify the funding of the institution.
Ana Méndez Godinho took advantage of the PKP parliamentary group’s question about deteriorating living conditions to recall the social support that the socialist government had implemented in recent years and informed the deputies that an ombudsman would be created later this year. to give social security users the right to vote.
“We invest in the welfare state […]in a more equitable distribution of wealth […] and in a faster state,” the minister said ahead of the announcement.
The official also recalled the government’s commitment to ensure the future sustainability of social security and related pensions, and stressed that this sustainability is guaranteed for another 26 years.
Betting on the future of social security led the government in April to announce the creation of a commission to diversify sources of funding to ensure its sustainability.
