France: Violent protest against pension plan – police with tear gas (video)

Watch the video: More than a million French strike against Macron’s pension plan.

STORY: In France, the second nationwide general strike against the planned pension reform partially paralyzed public life on Tuesday. The government put the number of demonstrators in the evening at a total of 1.27 million, more than the 1.12 million in the first strike on January 19. On the fringes of the protests in Paris, demonstrators clashed with security forces. The police used tear gas. At the same time, large crowds marched through the capital Paris and other cities to protest against the planned pension reform. President Emmanuel Macron wants to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64. Opinion polls show, however, that a large majority of French people reject this reform. Macron still wants to push through the flagship project of his second term against all odds. Unions have already announced further demonstrations for February 7th and 11th.
