Lörrach: relocation for refugee home: apologies to tenants

In Lörrach, Baden-Württemberg, around 40 residents are to leave their homes to make room for refugees. That caused a stir. Now the municipal housing association is speaking up.

After irritation about the conversion of apartments into a refugee home, Wohnbau Lörrach has apologized to the tenants affected.

The media response to the earlier invitation to a residents’ meeting – which has since been canceled – triggered a “state of emergency”, according to a letter. “We very much regret this development and apologize to you for the uncertainty that has arisen!” The “Badische Zeitung” (Wednesday) had previously reported.

Mayor Jörg Lutz (independent) defended the decision to move tenants against public criticism a week ago. The pressure on the municipalities is great: in the past year alone, Lörrach took in 638 refugees.

30 apartments affected

Around 40 residents are to move out of a residential complex to make room for refugees. The municipal housing company is to provide tenants with more modern and affordable housing options. It is about 30 apartments, they are mainly one-person households.

The company assured in the new letter that the offer for an affordable apartment should be made in the next few months. One does not want to take legal action for the apartments in Wölblinstraße, wrote Wohnbau Lörrach.
