The signs are black and red: the SPD in Berlin is conducting coalition negotiations with the CDU – and would thus voluntarily vacate the Red City Hall. What does Franziska Giffey want in a GroKo?
Some call it so, others so. Franziska Giffey says: “I am deeply convinced that this path is the right one.” It seems like a small sensation that is taking place in the federal capital these days, sometimes like a political stunt. Giffey would rather be a junior partner under the CDU than the governing mayor with red-green-red and literally hand over the Red Town Hall to the Christian Democrats. “I’m doing it for Berlin and I’m doing it for the SPD,” she says. Well, the step shouldn’t be quite so selfless, of course. But one by one.
