NATO warns Chinese President Xi Jinping against Russia’s rearmament. “China must not provide deadly support for Russia,” NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in Brussels at the Chinese head of state’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Although NATO has no “evidence” of Chinese arms deliveries, it does have “indications of a request from Russia,” which is being “examined by the Chinese authorities in Beijing,” said Stoltenberg.
The NATO Secretary General also urged Xi Jinping to seek direct talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about China’s twelve-point plan for Ukraine. “Ukraine decides what conditions are acceptable for a peaceful solution,” Stoltenberg emphasized. Beijing must try to understand Kiev’s perspective. Putin had previously assured the Chinese leader that he was open to discussing the plan. Xi met with Putin in Moscow on Tuesday afternoon for further talks.
