US Attorney : Alvin Bragg – The man impeaching Trump

Alvin Bragg says he brings “tough cases” to court when they’re ready. His biggest accusation makes him an opponent of Trump – and a target for his supporters.

Alvin Bragg is remembered as the first US Attorney to indict a former President. This should bring Manhattan’s first black chief prosecutor to international fame. As an opponent of ex-President Donald Trump and, as a consequence, an enemy of the American right.

Despite his membership in the Democratic Party, the 49-year-old is not overly interested in political intrigues. Bragg grew up in Manhattan’s Harlem in the ’80s and experienced crime firsthand: “Before I was 21, I had a gun pointed at me six times: three times by cops and three times by non-cops . I had a knife to my neck, a semi-automatic to my head, and a murder victim on my doorstep.”

“I bring hard cases when they’re ready”

After taking up his post as District Attorney in January 2022, the family man initially came under internal pressure because he wanted to devote more resources to prosecuting serious violent crimes and less to crimes related to drugs or prostitution. The chief prosecutor had also been criticized for being too hesitant about Trump because he did not bring investigations related to the current case to prosecution. In one of his few TV interviews, Bragg only stated, “I bring tough cases when they’re ready.”

Trump’s indictment has now cleared this hurdle – which probably means a political firestorm for Bragg personally and also for his employees. The right already paints Bragg as a Democrat who wants to get rid of presidential candidate Trump for the 2024 election. Indirect campaign support for Bragg from US investor George Soros, who is hated by conservatives, gives them additional ammunition. Trump himself had already described Bragg as a “racist”.
